Prof. Twalib Ngoma is a graduate of the University of Dar Es Salaam Faculty of Medicine in Muhimbili Tanzania. He trained in Radiotherapy and Oncology at the Christie Hospital, University of Manchester, UK and Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow.
Currently, Prof. Ngoma is the Executive Director and a Senior Consultant in Oncology of the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) and Head of the Oncology Department of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). He is the Director of International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) Tanzania office and was the President of African Organization for Research and Training (AORTIC) from 2007 to 2009. He was also a Board Member of the Union International for Cancer Control (UICC) for six years.
He is the Chairperson of the Tanzania Cancer Association and has participated in several Cancer Control Technical Working groups of the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Atomic Energy Agency – Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT).
Prof. Ngoma's research interests are in Burkitts Lymphoma and HIV related cancers - especially cervical cancer and Kaposis sarcoma. He was one of the investigators in an IARC demonstration study to evaluate Visual Inspection with acetic acid (VIA) as an alternative for cytology based PAP smear in low resource settings and the Principal Investigator in an INCTR African Burkitts Lymphoma Study.
