Dr Geraldo Alves - Hospital Santa Rosa, Brasil

Dr Geraldo Alves speaks to ecancer at the 2019 ecancer-Oncosalud Symposium of Molecular Clinical Oncology in Peru about the main advances in the treatment of peritoneal metastases in gastric cancer.

He reports the results from one study in which patients treated with a combination of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and cytoreductive surgery survived longer, compared to patients treated with cytoreductive surgery alone.

Dr Alves also describes further trials, including the
PERISCOPE II and GASTRIPEC studies, that are investigating the effect of perioperative chemotherapy plus HIPEC in high-risk patients.
