It’s the first time I’ve been in EADO conference but I’ve been in other conferences. For now it’s going really well because I’m also a nurse, an oncology nurse, so I’ve been in the nurse sessions which are more focussed on the information for education for the nurses. It’s been really good and educating.
What is being discussed in the nurses session at the conference?
From topics, you can see all kinds of topics interesting in melanoma or skin cancer, for example, the genetics of melanoma or the treatments, immunological or not. In the nurse sessions we are focussed also on these kinds of topics with radiotherapy also and everything.
What is the importance of having education like this for nurses and practitioners?
For nurses it’s really important because one of our more important tasks is that we have to educate our patients, be in contact with our patients and also if they don’t understand anything they call us back or to do better work with them. So it’s really important for us to educate and also, I don’t know how to say it exactly, but to have better understanding for the patients and engagement also to the treatments because if one patient wants to be really engaged with the treatment it will also be with less side effects and less problems.
What do you think about the visibility of conferences like EADO for the attendance of nurses?
EADO has to invest more in the visibility of these kinds of sessions for nurses or for patients in order to get more people involved and educated.
