Dr Brian Bourbeau speaks to ecancer about medical homes in oncology. He initially, describes what are medical homes and how they give care to cancer patients.
He says these medical homes address the side effects of cancer treatment and cover the socio-economic problems of the patient.
Dr Bourbeau says that currently there are commercial payment models in the USA that are not sustainable.
ASCO and the community oncology alliance are working on a single set of measurements to create a more uniform way of covering the expenses of cancer treatment for the patient.
They are trying to introduce a certification programme. He concludes by talking about what the future policies for oncology medical homes could be like.
