ecancermedicalscience

ecancermedicalscience is an open access cancer journal focused on under-resourced communities. In order to help reduce global inequalities in cancer care and treatment, we provide free access to all articles from the point of publication and we only charge authors who have specific funding to cover publication costs.

The journal considers articles on all aspects of research relating to cancer, including molecular biology, genetics, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical reports, controlled trials (in particular if they are independent or publicly funded trials), health systems, cancer policy and regulatory aspects of cancer care.

Cancer Health Disparities: The ReTOOL Programme Findings

25 Oct 2021
Guest Editors: Folakemi Odedina and Parisa Fathi

This special issue aims to address the health disparities which exist across the cancer care continuum resulting in differences in cancer incidences, morbidity and mortality based on race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, geographical location, age and sexual orientation.

The four articles all arise from the Cancer Research Training Opportunities for Outstanding Leaders (ReTOOL) Programme, which creates opportunities and promotes careers for underrepresented minority students from diverse disciplines.  Topics covered include the barriers causing limited participation of African Americans in clinical trials, how stigma may cause a higher cancer burden in low-and-middle-income countries and the cancer screening needs of Haitian and African American men.
