Tania Pastrana is a native of Colombia, South America, received a medical degree from the Universidad de Caldas, Colombia, a degree in sociology, social anthropology and social psychology from the University of Munich in Germany, a Doctorate in Medical Anthropology and Psychosomatic from the University of Munich and the Max Planck Institute and a postdoctoral qualification in Global Palliative Care at the RWTH Aachen University. Since 2007, Tania has been working at the Department of Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen in Germany.
She co-chairs the reference group Primary Palliative Care of the European Association for Palliative Care and serves as research adviser to the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC). She was elected President of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (ALCP) 2016 –2020. Tania is also involved in different projects for developing and advancing palliative care as integration of palliative care in medical education, improvement of availability of opioids, among others.
