Dr Castro Espinosa graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Rosario, Bogotá, Colombia in 1977 before moving to the University of British Columbia,in Canada. He was Head of the Hematology-Oncology Department of the National Cancer Institute of Colombia between 1993-1998 and then went on to become General Director of the National Cancer Institute, 1998-2002.
Between 2002-2003 Dr Castro Espinosa was Vice Minister of Health of Colombia, before holding the position of Chairman of the Oncology Center of the Xaveriana University at Bogotá. More recently, Dr Castro Espinosa was Director of the Oncology Institute of the Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota before taking his current position of Medical Director of the Colombian League Against Cancer in 2011.
