Dr Peter Kingham speaks to ecancer at the 2019 AORTIC conference in Maputo about work looking at identifying early stage colorectal cancer patients in Nigeria, specifically using biomarkers and genetics.
He explains that there are some striking differences between the biology of colorectal cancer in Nigeria and the US, particularly in the microsatellite instability rates.
Dr Kingham states identifying clinical symptoms as key to identifying the disease earlier and highlights a risk score study that helped change the presentation in stage 4 from 65% to 25%.
