Dr Mohandas Malath - Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, India

Dr Mohandas Mallath talks to ecancer at the Choosing Treatments Wisely event in Kolkata about the growing burden of cancer in India.

He explains that after being asked 'Is there a cancer epidemic in India?' he decided to review old literature on the very early cases of cancer in India.

Dr Mallath recalls some of the very interesting data that he unearthed and believes that it all shows that cancer is a disease of growing old.

As India as a country is 'growing old', Dr Mallath believes that the incidence of cancer in India is less of an epidemic and more a case of the rise in number of older people in India.
