Dr Solomon Rotimi speaks to ecancer at the 2019 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) meeting about the development of cancer research in Africa, with a particular focus on cancer genomics.
Dr Rotimi explains the lack of African affiliated publications available, which may reflect negatively upon African institutions working within academic research.
To improve this, Dr Rotimi believes guidelines to permit clinical studies should be emphasised, along with more opportunities for long-standing collaborations with both domestic and international organisations.
He also emphasises the importance of capacity development among researchers in African institutions to enable skill development and networking opportunities.
As a result, Dr Romini's institution will focus on prostate and cancer genomic studies, bioinformatics, computational biology and malaria research in the future.
