Talking to ecancer from the 55th meeting of the American Society of Haematology ( ASH ) in New Orleans, USA, Prof Peter Hillmen, The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds, UK, outlines the importance of considering co-morbidities in older patients with CLL.  He reviews how current treatments can best be used in this patient cohort, and advises on their main limitations.  Prof Hillmen also notes how clinicians should manage relapsed elderly patients.

Finally, Prof Hillmen outlines his highlights from ASH 2013, such as the trials of chlorambucil in combination with antibodies – and notes his excitement of the recent advances that have been made in CLL.
