Dr Eva Grunfeld - Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, Toronto, Canada
At the National Cancer Research Institute cancer conference, Dr Eva Grunfeld talks about how she became involved in oncology and cancer survivorship.
Starting in clinics, Dr Grunfeld observed that patients were going for regular check ups and that clinics were overcrowded to the point where adequate attention could not be given to patients with problems. This has become an even larger problem now as health care systems attempt to cope with overcrowding on a national level.
Dr Grunfeld conducted a trial to observe whether or not a family physician could monitor and diagnosis a patient as quickly and efficiently outside the clinical setting. The results showed that there was no difference when patients received follow up in the cancer hospital or by their physician.
