Dr Tim Rattay - University of Leicester Cancer Research Centre, Leicester, UK

Dr Tim Rattay speaks to ecancer about a talk he presented at EBCC 2024 on new data from the PRE-ACT study. This study evaluates whether an AI tool can predict which breast cancer patients may be at risk of side effects after surgery and radiotherapy.

He explains that a type of 'explainable AI' was used and that the model produces predictions with associated explanations so that clinicians and patients can understand why there has been an identification of high risk.

Dr Rattay reports that the tool was able to accurately predict lymphoedema in almost 82% of patients.
