Dr Miriam Mutebi speaks to ecancer about the faculty development workshop at AORTIC. Initially, Dr Mutebi discusses why this workshop is important. She says that through this workshop teaching is being imparted at all points.

Faculty development is important for training the next generation of health providers. Dr Mutebi mentions that Pan-African faculty was present at this workshop and various strategies were given to improve faculty development in Africa. The workshop first analyzed what faculty and oncologists need.

Dr Mutebi says that early-career oncologists were not satisfied with career development in Africa and late-career oncologists had made peace with their career journey. After diving deeper into the issues it was observed that the faculty was dissatisfied with professional development.

Dr Mutebi concludes that more faculty needs to be engaged in curricular development, better time management is required and the problem of paying out of pocket to attend meetings needs to be addressed.

More training is required on how to be a good mentor and mentee and having context and cultural specific resources and training is needed.
