ecancermedicalscience is pleased to report that one of our case reports has received international media attention for its striking and unusual findings.
The article, "Child with temporal lobe hamartoma: A to Z images and a case report", describes the case of a young Latin American girl who suffered from uncontrollable seizures of laughter.
A team of doctors, led by Dr Jose Liders Burgo Zuletas, discovered that the source of her behaviour was a hamartoma, or small tumour, pressing on the temporal lobe of her brain.
They could not perform a biopsy, so the tumour was discovered through imaging.
The article attracted significant press attention, and has been reported in LiveScience, Science Daily, the Corriere della Sera, The Huffington Post, and many others.
The young patient made a full recovery and now only laughs for normal reasons.
We are an independent charity and are not backed by a large company or society. We raise every penny ourselves to improve the standards of cancer care through education. You can help us continue our work to address inequalities in cancer care by making a donation.
Any donation, however small, contributes directly towards the costs of creating and sharing free oncology education.
Together we can get better outcomes for patients by tackling global inequalities in access to the results of cancer research.
