The Chinese Academy of Science announced a new open access policy on 15 May, 2014. Researchers funded by this agency will be required to submit their research to their institute's open-access repositories within twelve months.
This move will “facilitate knowledge dissemination and accelerate the globalisation of science,” states the Academy.
Increasingly, research agencies are implementing open-access policies. While there is still significant disagreement about the best way to do this - with supporters firmly backing Green, Gold or Platinum open access strategies - this move marks a significant moment in the global acceptance of open-access publishing.
