ecancermedicalscience has just published an editorial on the important issue of palliative care in Africa. Dr Anne Merriman, of Hospice Africa Uganda, makes an impassioned plea for the improvement of care for cancer patients across the African continent.
Dr Merriman makes the point that, although palliative care provision has progressed greatly in recent years, there is still a need for all health professionals to play a greater part in relieving the suffering of cancer patients in Africa today.
The editorial concludes with the hope that the 2013 AORTIC (African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer) conference will bring together health professionals from across Africa so that they are able to work together to improve palliative care for cancer patients across the region.
