Preview: World Cancer Congress in Geneva

UICC's flagship event is taking place 17-19 September in Geneva, Switzerland. It is expected to gather over 2,000 participants and cover a wide range of topics essential to cancer control globally. Registration open for the general public, cancer professionals and the media. 

The event will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17-19 September at the International Conference Center Geneva (CICG).

The Congress is expected to gather over 2,000 participants, including medical specialists, scientists, NGO and civil society representatives, Ministers of Health, high-level United Nations representatives, and individuals living with or affected by cancer.

Programme highlights

  • Innovation in Cancer Prevention and Care: Showcasing advances in early detection, screening, diagnostics, and treatment, including breakthroughs in immunotherapy, precision medicine, vaccines, and the application of artificial intelligence.
  • Patient-centred Care: Covering palliative and supportive care, the psychosocial aspects of cancer treatment, maintaining health post-diagnosis, and the impact of socio-economic factors on cancer recovery.
  • Impact of Antimicrobial Resistance on Cancer Care: Exploring sustainable and equitable access to effective antimicrobials.
  • Women’s Cancers: Highlighting the need for integrated care approaches.
  • Childhood Cancer – Bridging the Gap: Addressing disparities in childhood cancer outcomes between high-income and low-income countries.
  • Tobacco Control: Discussing strategies to counter industry influence, regulate new products like e-cigarettes, and updates on global tobacco control policies.
  • Alcohol’s Hidden Danger: Examining the links between alcohol and cancer and addressing alcohol as a significant preventable cause of cancer.
  • Global Health Equity: Improving access to cancer care in low- and middle-income countries, featuring initiatives such as the Access to Oncology Medicines (ATOM) Coalition, and extending care to vulnerable populations, including refugees, displaced people, and underprivileged communities.

The programme will also include abstract-led sessions showcasing implementation science and new studies relevant to cancer control. Additional details on key speakers and sessions will be available on the World Cancer Congress website and communicated closer to the event.
