ecancer invites applications for the role of Editor in Chief of its peer-reviewed Open Access journal, ecancermedicalscience.

ecancermedicalscience is focused on under-resourced communities in order to help reduce global inequalities in cancer care and treatment. The journal considers articles on all aspects of research relating to cancer, including molecular biology, genetics, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical reports, controlled trials (in particular if they are independent or publicly funded trials), health systems, cancer policy and regulatory aspects of cancer care.

The role of the Editor in Chief is to drive the strategic direction of ecancermedicalscience, in collaboration with the journal team, Associate Editors and Editorial Board. The Editor in Chief is the figurehead for the journal and is responsible for raising its profile within the community. The five-year year term begins in April 2024.

Candidates must have significant experience of global cancer control, in particular among Lower and Middle-Income Countries. A clear demonstration of a commitment to improving patient health and cancer outcomes, as well as addressing global inequalities in cancer care, is essential.

Candidates should have prior experience of a significant leadership role as well as senior editorial responsibilities for a journal. They should ideally have served on the board of a recognised oncology organisation and must have a good understanding of the principles of best oncology practice and how it is applied in differently resourced settings.

Candidates need to be able to make a time commitment to direct the editorial progress of the journal, including providing expert advice on peer review, management and selection of the editorial board and representation at international conferences.

Editor in Chief: Role and Responsibilities

• Act as a spokesperson/figurehead at events and in the media
• Advise on the scientific direction of the journal
• Work with the team to increase high-quality submissions, citation rates, views etc.
• Raise the visibility of the journal through active promotion and soliciting high-quality papers for publication
• Write or co-write editorials for publication in the journal (all papers are peer-reviewed)
• Help make decisions on ecancer papers, especially papers with conflicting reviews, acting with impartiality and free from bias
• Suggest topics and contacts for commissioning papers and new ecancer content
• Suggest contacts for peer reviewers
• Suggest new editorial board members and associate editors
• Chair editorial board meetings (at least one per year)
