Though it is widely believed that high intake of fruit and vegetables can cut down the risk of cancer, inconsistent findings from different studies have been unable to conclusively demonstrate an inverse relation between them. A recent study published in Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) that prospectively analysed the relation between total fruit and vegetable intake and overall cancer risk among the European population found only a very small inverse relation between the two. Given such a small magnitude of the observed association the researchers highlight the use of caution in interpreting such a result.
