ecancermedicalscience is an open access cancer journal focused on under-resourced communities. In order to help reduce global inequalities in cancer care and treatment, we provide free access to all articles from the point of publication and we only charge authors who have specific funding to cover publication costs.

The journal considers articles on all aspects of research relating to cancer, including molecular biology, genetics, pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical reports, controlled trials (in particular if they are independent or publicly funded trials), health systems, cancer policy and regulatory aspects of cancer care.

Dr Palwasha Rehman speaks to ecancer about the survival outcomes of unilateral retinoblastoma based on pathological risk stratification-experience at a tertiary care centre in Pakistan. Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common childhood intraocular malignancy.

Dr Rehman says that in high-income countries over the past decade upfront enucleation for unilateral retinoblastoma is least favoured due to other alternatives that can help in globe preservation, but in low-middle income countries, it’s still the preferred option due to lack of resources and expertise.

Dr Rehman discusses the background and methodology of the study. She then explains the key results.

She concludes by saying that awareness about the early symptoms among the general population and health care personnel at a nationwide level is needed to facilitate early detection and lessen disease-related morbidity and mortality.
